Getting a dental crown used to mean multiple visits, messy impressions, and weeks of waiting. At Lipkowitz Dental Associates, we know your time is important, and we’re happy to offer crowns in a day here at the practice.
The Old Way
Traditionally, getting a crown was a stressful, multi-visit process. The first visit would involve preparing the tooth, taking an impression of the crown with a goopy, rubbery material, and placing a temporary crown. This mold would be sent to a lab, and a few weeks later, the patient would return for a second appointment to have the permanent crown placed. Patients often had problems arise in this 3-4 week period, which would add time to their visit.
The New Way: Crowns in a Day
Now, our in-office CEREC technology allows for crowns in a day. Everything is done in one appointment – scans, design, creation, and placement!
After the tooth is prepared, the scanning process takes just minutes. Instead of messy impressions, Dr. Rob uses a small, non-invasive camera to digitally scan the teeth, creating a precise 3D digital model. From there, Dr. Rob uses this rendering of the teeth to create a model of the crown that will fit over the damaged tooth. He uses the software to adjust as needed, and then the patient gets to relax until the crown is milled out on-site by the CEREC machine.
Once ready, we place the crown without adhesive to check the fit and bite, and make any small adjustments. The crown is then glazed and placed in an oven for 15 to 20 minutes to give it the proper color and shine so it blends naturally with the patient’s smile.
The result is a strong, precise, and natural-looking restoration completed the same day. No temporary crown, no second appointment, and no waiting weeks!
“Just had a crown created in-house using super-modern equipment: 3-D images that Dr. Lipkowitz used to design the crown, not goop to take an impression, a milling machine that creates the crown from a small block of porcelain, and finally baking the milled material for hardening. The crown fit perfectly!”
