Need a Same-Day Crown? Dr. Rob Explains How He Does It

You may be wondering, is it really possible to get a crown in one visit to the dentist’s office? The answer is absolutely. Dr. Rob explains how!

What was the process of getting a traditional crown?

Getting a dental crown used to mean multiple visits and a long time waiting. We would bring a patient in and prepare and create a temporary crown for them. Additionally, we’d take an impression to create a mold, which is typically a very messy process using a goopy, rubbery material. We would send the mold to the lab, then get the crown back weeks later and cement it into the patient’s mouth. The problem being that if it didn’t fit quite right, we’d have to take another impression, send it back to the lab, and repeat the process until we’re happy with the fit of the crown.

How CEREC Technology Changes the Process

Today, with CEREC technology, it is fully possible to do same-day crowns.

When a patient comes in for their visit:

  • We scan their teeth on the computer, which creates a digital model.
  • Using the model, we can then design the crown right on the computer and mill it out in the office.
  • Once it’s ready, Dr. Rob makes sure the fit is correct and makes any necessary changes using the same in-office technology.

Then, we get to cement it in the same day! Not only does it save time and improve efficiency, but it avoids the messy impression.

With crowns in a day, you can walk in with a problem and leave with it solved. It’s a faster, more comfortable process designed to make restoring the tooth as simple as possible. Tune into the full video to hear more about same-day crowns from Dr. Rob Lipkowitz.
